Really I am in Copenhagen but this image is from Australia. I have had the pleasure to travel to the outback of Australia and through the assistance of Ken Duncan, well know Australian photographer got to visit an aborigine community. I was fortunate enough to do a number of portraits and this is one of them. Their face tell so many stories. Their eyes are so black. Just very interesting people and most gracious. If you get the chance to visit the outback it is an amazing place.

Death Valley Sunset
One in a while you just land the good one. This is sunset from atop the pass coming into Death VAlley from Beatty. It was just one of those nights.
Abandoned Hotel In Mexico
I just love this place. Outside San Miguel there is a hotel that is 60% finished and then one day while building it they figured out it was not a good idea to build a hotel under a dam that may break someday and flood the place out. No matter what you think of all the planning that went into this before discovering such a thing, it did leave a cool place to take pictures. I like this shot because it has symmetry. I am kind of big on that as one of my styles in photography. This was shot with a Phase One IQ180 that has super ability to see drk and highlight detail. Notice how you can see detail in ceilings of the hotel rooms. This camera in addition to this dynamic range is also 80 megapixels so the detail is just amazing.
Another Waterfall
Well get used to it, you re going to see a lot of waterfalls and ice pictures in the coming weeks. I worked on this image and feel it really popped in black and white. This is one of many waterfalls shot in Iceland. I opted in this case not to slow the water down too much as I wanted to illustrate the force of the water coming off the falls and through gorge.
Behind The Falls
The waterfalls in Icealnd are spectacular. This waterfall Seliansfoss is one almost every visitor sees when in Iceland so the trick is making it look different. This waterfall ou can actually walk behind it. You’ll get wet but you will get a shot and if the sun is going down it even gets better.
Sunset – Sunrise – Glacial Lagoon
The beauty and curse of Icealnd this time of year is there is no darkness. You go from sunset to sunrise in a matter of 2 hours with just this strange twilight in between. This image ws shot at the Glacial Lagoon more on the sunset side of things.
The Falls
Every time I come to Iceland I stop at this location and shoot these falls. You may notice they are the header sot for my blog. I have a new set of falls to replace the header soon. This shot was taken the other day and was made from 3 stitched images from an IQ180 and 28mm lens. This has been an amazing trip to Iceland this time. After two weeks I head home tomorrow.
One Cool Week
So strange to read weather reports back home about how hot it is. As I lead a workshop group through the many beautiful locations in Iceland I find I am always dressing in layers. Sometimes the wind bellows and it feels like winter. Other times it is in the 30’s. No matter what though we have a had a week of amazing color, weather and a chance to shoot with 14 great people with a true passion for photography. You can follow the adventure at www.podas.info.. The image above was done at The Glacial Lagoon as the moon set. It never gets dark, just kind of this blueish grey light. Hard to sleep when it is never dark and we find ourselves out at 2-5 AM in the morning. Lots of fun, great image that you will soon see more of.
It Just Keeps Getting Better
We made it to Skaftafell with a few stops along the way. We enjoyed a dinner and we left for sunset at the Glacial Lagoon of Jokulsarlon. We spent hours there as the sun set finally at 11:20PM. Then we waited for sunrise that we eventually skipped due to weather that moved in. No one complained as they caught up on some much needed sleep. This is a PODAS and sleep is optional. We did a Capture One tutorial seesion this morning folloed by lunch and time to work on images. This afternoon we will head out to shoot Glaciers and waterfalls. This will be followed by dinner and an early night to bed as we head out at 2:45 AM to shoot icebergs on the beach. We did a Capture One session today and we saw the images being created on this trip by the attendees and they are very good. Below and above are some of the images of attendees and places we visited.
The Iceland Adventure Continues
After a day of gale force winds and rain the weather cleared and we got into the photography part of this Iceland PODAS at 150%. We were on the rode Sunday at 2AM, yes 2AM and we didn’t stop until 11PM that night. We covered a lot of ground. We explored and photographed the coastline of Snaefellsnes Peninsula. There was a black church with a sunrise behind it, a small fishing village, spectacular coastline and more. We then moved onward towards Hvolsvollur where will stay one night. In the evening we explored Seljalandsfoss falls. On Monday we will explore the coastline near Vik and Dyrholaey and then head towards Skaftafell where we will spend the next three days. Today as we head out we are expecting to be photographing way into the next morning as we do sunset and sunrise at the Glacial Lagoon and beach at Jokulsarlon. In the coming days we have more waterfalls and spectacular mountain settings to photograph. We will also be doing some more classroom lectures. As with all PODAS workshops the agenda is packed and non-stop.
