Cemetery of Punta Arenas

Cemetery of Punta Arenas

Cemetery of Punta Arenas, Chile is one of most interesting cemeteries in the world.  We spent a few hours here in February shooting images and it is a photographers paradise.  It has a beautiful yet quiet and soulful feel.  The places has so many different things to see and all the graves are decorated in such unique ways.  I’ll be posting more from this amazing place in the future.

Lupins

Lupins, Punta Arenas, Chile

One of my favorite flowers and a flower I run into in almost every corner of the world is a Lupin.  While in Punta Arenas, Chile prior to this years Antarctica trip we came upon a large field of Lupins.  So, we had a fun time shooting and I decided that I needed to do a some post processing technique on the image so it wouldn’t look like just another flower photo.

Iceland Delta

River Delta from the air in Iceland
River Delta from the air in Iceland

On our trip last week to Iceland we chartered a helicopter.  Iceland from the air is a whole other world.  We were able to open the door and the pilot did a great job getting us to the good locations.  I think he has done this before.  One of the things that becomes obvious quickly is the abstract of the landscape.  This is a shot done of a river delta and the muddy waters.  without a reference you wouldn’t know what you were looking at.  Made with the Nikon D800E with a 24-70mm lens at 1600th of a sec.

I’m Back, So Here We Go

Sunrise At The Iceberg Lagoon, Iceland
Sunrise At The Iceberg Lagoon, Iceland

I must apologize.  No excuses, but I was super busy for the last few months on Luminous-LAndscape business.  I literally was running out of hours in a day.  So, I am now back and will do my best to get back to the routine of an image a day.   Please accept my apologies for the long absence.

I’ll kick off the new images with a shot from last week when I was in Iceland leading  workshop.  It was a great workshop with some great people.  The light lasted 24 hours a day and it was non-stop photography.  One morning we woke up and it was grey and cloudy but none the less we headed to the Iceberg Lagoon to shoot sunrise.  As it is with Iceland weather the whole grey sky changed in the 10 minute drive there.  The clouds started to part and beautiful gold sun started to peak through.  This is the shot of an iceberg with the sun common up.  Oh my do I love Iceland.  Made with a Nikon D800e and a 70-200mm lens.

Olympic National Park – Hoh Rain Forrest

Olympic NP Feb 2012 0594 v2Olympic National Park is a relatively short drive from Seattle and offers some amazing landscapes.  It is special because it has a diverse micro climate.  This creates an different weather pattern in various parts of the park.  One part of the park is a rain forrest and they get a ton of rain.  This is where your camera will fool you because you’ll never see greens like there are in ONP.  This is a true I found along a hiking trail with some very nice light hitting it.  IT was shot with a Phase One 60 mega pixel camera.

Stairway 1 – New Orleans

New Orleans Stairway
New Orleans Stairway

Here is another shot I did in New orleans.  We were visiting a museum and next to it was an old library with all sorts of beautiful wood.  I climbed the blocked off stairs of one portion of the library and turned around to see this.  I loved the pulled back plastic, the backlighting and the window and railing.  It just works really well.

New Orleans 1

New Orleans Street Car
New Orleans Street Car

I recently was in New Orleans scouting out locations for a workshop to be held in March 2016.  I love New Orleans but for me most of my good memories are clouded as a result of partying  bit too hard at Mardi Gras in my younger days.  So, this time I got to see the city in a new light and clearer focus.  This is an image I shot that I thought defined New Orleans.  Street Cars are very popular although to me they don’t look very efficient.  I liked this shot and because of the guy on the bike.  I worked it a bit in post processing to get that old time look. Shot with a Fuji X-T1.
