Norway Sunset

Norway - Sunset

I haven’t published images from Norway for a while.  Norway is one of those unknown but very beautiful countries. Waterfalls, fiords, valleys and magnificent landscapes are all over the place.  This shot was made at sunset over a lake and a valley carved out by a glacier a long time ago.  Shot with a Phase One P45+.  I want to go back with my 80 megapixel IQ180 and shoot there.

Antarctica Sunrise or Sunset

Antarctica Sunrise & Sunset - It was all the same

Antarctica offers a an environment of great photographs.  Dynamic, changing and never cliched.  You can be on shore or the deck of the ship and see and shoot just beautiful images.  This one was made one morning when I was on the deck all by myself.  And, I was presented with this shot of clouds, distant icebergs and the rising sun peeking through cracks in the sky.  Makes for some dynamic photos.  It then got darker and an hour later it was blue skies.  Things happen fast there and they are unpredictable.

Lamar Channel

Lamar Channel, Antarctica

The Lamar channel is a very cool place to cruise through especially if you get to cruise it at sunset.  On my first Antarctica trip we cruised the channel at magic hour.  The sun was low and the moon was coming up.  The sky turned orange and purple and the water looked like it had a sheen of oil on it from the reflection.  Just an amazing experience.  This is a shot taken at one end of the channel.  I believe these two peeks are called Ulla’s Tits.  Must be a story behind it.

Key West Sunset

Every few years I manage to get down to the Keys and especially Key West. Yesterday I visited Key West with two friends and enjoyed a day of wandering the streets, eating ice cream drinking beer and celebrating sunset. Key west is an odd place with its own charm. There is plenty to do and lots of partying after dark. Each day at sunset there is a sunset celebration on the wharf and it is quite an event. There are street performer acts with cats, knifes, fire, and escape artists. Fun to watch. And, while all this is going on folks are drinking and watching for the green flash, which by the way we all saw last night. This is a shot I did during the sunset. Nothing too spectacular but it is sunset in Key West.

Glaciers and a New Setting Sun

Jökulsárlón Glacier and Iceberg Lagoon

My inventory of beautiful landscapes is large and last night I was sorting some images from Iceland and came on this.  I cleaned it up a little bit and wanted to share it here today.  Iceland is one of the most majestic places on the planet.  I will leading a workshop there end of MAy 2012 so stay tuned for information on that.  This shot was made at Jokulsarlon bay which is a lagoon that is filled with icebergs from a very large glacier nearby.  These icebergs float around the lagoon eroding and taking on the most mazing forms.  Then they are washed out to sea and some of them land on the beach nearby at low tide.  The whole area is just amazing.

Sunset Pano, August 2011, Marathon, FL

The other day I post a spectacular sunset shot.  Today I post the pano version of the same sunset.  My son and I were driving down the US1 Highway in the FL, Keys heading to Marathon.  We had to pull over and shoot this.  iPhone shot stitched and then enhances a bit on the iPad.  This stuff is so much fun.

Big Ass Yellow Truck

Big Yellow and Rusty Truck

So, what do you do when you go to an industrial site (Gravel Quarry) and want to make the place look gritty and sort of apocalyptic?  You use a good camera and some of the app you can find on the iPad.  This shot was of a big old dump truck at the quarry, obviously not used much.  I shot a variety of angles of it and this is the one I selected.  I like the flat tire, low angle, and the hose coming off of it.  I pulled the image into the iPAd and used SNapSpeed to adjust the drama, grit, and selective colors.  Enjoy!

Sunset Over Marathon

Sunset Marathon, FL

Last evening i was visiting some friends in Marathon, FL.   This is one of my friends that I have stayed in touch with from High School and she has been working for years in keys with Dolphin.  On the way there the sun was setting and I had my oldest son Kevin Jr. with me.  And at his urging we pulled over and did a number of captures of a most magnificent sunset.  This one shot jazzed up a bit in SnapSpeed on my iPad.  IT was a very spectacular sunset!

Debra On A Truck

Debra On The Truck - Gravel Pits, Indiana

A week or so ago Debra, my shooting partner and friend called and said let’s go shoot.  It was a warm day (and I don’t move fast on warm days) and I said slowly OK.  I knew I needed to go out and do some shooting.  It’s great therapy especially when you need to clear the mind.  It was also one of those evenings where it looked like a storm could blow in any minute.  So, we headed off and we had no place in particular in mind to go.  Then I remembered a place my son and I stumbled upon a few years ago and using my iPad with satellite view I located the gravel pit and we headed there.  The gates were open so we went in and we spent nearly two hours there shooting Debra went her way and I went mine.  At one point when I was coming back from the dredging area Debra was  standing on this old dump truck.  So, I said pose and as Debra always does she struck a few unusual poses.  I love this one as it just works on so many levels.  I shot it with my iPhone, even though I had my big boy camera with me.  I wanted to use the ProHDR app to capture the details in the sky and not lose detail in Debra.  Damn, it worked great.  I then took the image into my iPad and played even more adding border, grain, more dramatic light effects etc.. Man, this si so much fun. So, here it is.  I think it is one cool, bad ass shot!
