Man In Window

Man In Window, Queenstown, New Zealand

I love doing what is called street photography.  This is a form of photography where you walk the streets and shoot pictures of things that are happening.   while in new Zealand I received a NEW Fuji x100 which is kind of the old classic rangefinder camera in digital.  This makes absolute no noise so it is easy to walk down the street and see something and shoot it with out a lot of fuss.  Here is one of the street shot images from Queenstown, NZ.  Just a man in the window with a glass of wine.

Gritty Denmark

Nyhaven, Copenhagen

One of the most visited areas in Copenhagen, Denmark used to be one of the grittiest.  It’s known as Nyhaven an area where all the ships and seedy bars used be.  Now it is the main tourist destination.  I tried to put a little grit back into one of the more colorful areas of Copenhagen.

Blue Headlight

Blue Headlight

Sometimes I just like to mess around and have fun.  It’s not always about the perfect landscape, the chilly dawn shot or the angle.  Sometimes it is just about taking an iPhone out because you saw something that looked good and shooting it.  This is the headlight of a sports car.  It looked good.  Symmetry and balance combined with color.  It was shot with the Hipstamatic app  on the iPhone and then taken a bit further in SnapSeeed an ipad app.  Oh, and it just is fun!

Man In Row Boat

Man Rowing Boat

This is a shot that I always liked and finally decided to post.  It was shot in Buenos Aires which is an interesting place to visit.  Lots of rust and abandoned ships and buildings.  This guy was just rowing his boat up this extremely busy and dirty river.  He had a mission and purpose.  I messed with the image a bit and grunged it a bit.  I love the way his face peeks out and the splash from his oar.

Seeing Different

Old Man Statue - Carmel, IN

I am still recovering from the rotator cuff injury and the most frustrating thing is I can’t lift a camera.   I am going out for a drive today to shoot and I will use my iPhone.  The picture above was shot with an iPhone and then jazzed up a bit on my iPad.  It’s of a statue ( community art) in my town Carmel, IN.  It’s just a fun shot showing how with cropping and some playing with camera angle you can come up with an unusual shot.

Old Lady In A Hurry

One things I enjoy doing is street photography.  Shooting people and scenes while walking around a town or an area.  This shot was made in Buenos Aires and is of an hunched over lady rushing up the street and on a mission.  She was moving very fast.  I liked the wall, color of her clothing and the packages she was carrying.

Organ Grinder

Organ Grinder, Cologne, Germany

In my travels I love to wander the streets and see what can be found.  This is called street photography.  This shot was taken in Cologne Germany of a man in a public square grinding an organ.  I couldn’t resist.  Originally shot on a Leica M8 and then on my iPad I played with it a bit.  Hope you are staying cool.  It is so hot out that it is hard to breathe.  If this breaks there will be some major storms.  Might be some good photography too.

Rope In My Eye

Rope In The Eye - Copenhagen, Denmark

Sometimes simple works.  When I am out shooting I look at things with a frame around them.  Isolate and find the strength in the design and composition.  This was shot in Denmark along the Nyhvn Cananl.  There are always great shots to be had here.  Overall big wide shots and sometimes close shots like this.  This was shot on a Canon 5dII and then I messed with it a bit on the iPad in Snapseed.  All a lot of fun.

I leave today for Chicago to lead another PODAS workshop.  This one will be on Architectural photography.  Be sure to check it out at www.podas.info the PODAS Blog.

Man in San Miguel

Man in San Miguel, Mexico

So, the last few days I have been publishing people shots.  I love walking the streets of new cities and catching the flavor both in the graphics and scenes of the city but also the people.  This shot was made in San Manguiel Mexico during a wonderful two hour walk.  I love this place so much that I will host a workshop through PODAS there in January.  The lighting filtering through the trees just made this work not to mention the expression and face.  I leave for a multi city CHina tour on Tuesday.  while I have lots of Phase One business to do there, I am hoping for some street shooting as well as seeing some of Chinas magnificent sights.  I’ll publish when I can.
