So Copenhagen

Copenhagen, near the brewery

I love Denmark and especially Copenhagen.  I work for a Danish Company, Phase One and love the job. I get to work in a field i am passionate about, meet great people from all over the world and share our mutual passions – photography.  Copenhagen is a magic city.  You can practically walk the whole city and there is so much to see.  This is a shot from a trip a year ago.  Obviously I messed with it a bit but it kind of fun.  I love the whole lion thing.  Kind of like a fairy tale thing.

I don’t do recovery well.  I am restless and want to get out.  But my shoulder still hurts a lot and I don’t want to push my knee.  I am doing what many of my friends have recommended and that is take it easy and take advantage of good drugs.  So, I sit around the house reading, working on photos, doing some work, watching TV taking meds.  I so much want to be out enjoying the day.  I tell myself this can’t last forever.

Rope In My Eye

Rope In The Eye - Copenhagen, Denmark

Sometimes simple works.  When I am out shooting I look at things with a frame around them.  Isolate and find the strength in the design and composition.  This was shot in Denmark along the Nyhvn Cananl.  There are always great shots to be had here.  Overall big wide shots and sometimes close shots like this.  This was shot on a Canon 5dII and then I messed with it a bit on the iPad in Snapseed.  All a lot of fun.

I leave today for Chicago to lead another PODAS workshop.  This one will be on Architectural photography.  Be sure to check it out at www.podas.info the PODAS Blog.

Round Tower

Round Tower - Copenhagen, Denmark

This is a fun image.  There is this place in Copenhagen and it’s called the Round Tower.  It was built by some king or prince or whomever a long time ago so he could take his dates to the top of the city and show it off.  He built it though so he could take his carriage and horses to the top.  I’m sure this impressed the girls.  In any case you can now walk up the tower with its brick path and beautiful plastered and curved walls.  I had a lot of fun taking pictures here.  This is one of many.

Laughing It Off

Laughing It Off

The other day I posted a photo of a Dane who was sleeping it off.  Other Danes take the way they handle drinking a bit different.  This fellow was just standing there and laughing.  He was just laughing, actually howling-laughing.  A very happy guy for some reason.  Not a care in the world.  This is what I like most about doing street photography is the unexpected.  This was made on one of my many walk-abouts in Copenhagen. When doing street shooting you have to look everywhere.   Don’t be bashful but be quick with the camera.

Sleeping It Off

Sleeping It Off

I travel to Denmark quite alot.  I work for a Danish Company (Phase One) and each visit to Copenhagen is a pleasant surprise.  Copenhagen is an amazing city and it is a city you always want to have a camera close by.  When I get time off on my visits there I head out and do a lot of street photography.  I have posted other images here from my walk-abouts.  This one just struck me as one that says a lot.  The Danes know how to party like no others.  They also know how to recover as this poor chap is doing.  This was done on one of my HDR days and the result kind of works here.  I bet this guy woke with a  major headache.

Beautiful Reflections

Copenhagen Reflections

When I shoot photographs I am always looking for something different. Years ago I loved photographing things in windows and making images created entirely of reflections. This image is a reflection taken in a canal in Copenhagen. I was enjoying a beer and looked at the water and it was reflecting the colors oof the buildings and other surroundings. I shot a numbe rof exposures and this image is the result. So, when you are takig phots always look for something that you might not see even if you are looking at it.

Copenhagen Street

Copenhagen Violin Player

I love Copenhagen and love walking the city. The city has so much to offer. As a photographer one thing I enjoy is a form of photography called street photography. This was made famous by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. He wandered the streets of cities shooting street scenes and became famous because of it.  In my travels I make it a point to wander the streets of the cities I viist and shot the people and life. The image today was taken on a walking mall in Copenhagen. On every visit I make to Copenhagen I always see this same guy with a violin playing on the street. He always has a big smile and he seems to be everywhere. Anyway, this is a shot of him that says it all.
