New Orleans Cemetery

When I travel I like to visit places that define the region.  In New Orleans because of high water tables, they don’t bury their dead but use methods like crypts and mausoleums.   They are very interesting to photograph.  I have visited some of the world’s most famous cemeteries like in Buenos Aires and Punta Arenas.  These locations are gorgeous properties and they also use mausoleums for their dead.  In any case, this image shows one of the areas of one of the many city cemeteries.

New Orleans Cemetery

New Orleans Cemetery

New Orleans is one of Americas greatest cities.  It is unlike any other city as it has a deep history and has been through many challenges.  The city because it is so prone to flooding and has a very high water table elects to bury their dead above ground.  This image was made in one of the many cemeteries around the city.  I took the image into my iPad and used a few apps to give it a different look,

Grave In New Orleans
Grave In New Orleans

Another thing about New Orleans is the city has some amazing cemeteries.  It’s funny in a way that in my travels I have photographed cemeteries in many countries.  Buenos Aires, Argentina and Punta Arena, Chile have two of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever visited.  New Orleans certainly has its share of interesting cemeteries.  This is a close up I found on one of the graves.  I have hundreds of images I made there.  Maybe I’ll show more over time.  Shot with an iPhone.

Green Island Cemetary

Green Island Cemetery, Scotland

One of the places w visited in Scotland was one of the oldest known cemeteries.  We spent nearly two hours here after an 1.5 hour boat ride. Only way to visit this place is by boat. To say the place was surreal would be an understatement.  It deserved the BW treatment. I’ll post some more interesting image from here in the near future.
