Penguin Express

I just completed an Antarctica Expedition with 30 clients.  It was a super trip and I have come home with a ton of photos.  These photographs were made while we were traveling from one location to another.  We were having dinner and saw this iceberg with penguins go by.  The Captain immediately turns the ship around and we approached this iceberg.  The penguins were jumping onto it and it was fin to watch as many took several tries to get up.  It was dusk and very dark and I was fortunate to be shooting with a Sony a7r4 which has terrific high ISO capability.  These are two of my favorites that I hope to make large prints of next week.  I’ll also have more photos, an article or two and videos that will appear on photopxl.com in the near future.

The Tower In Copenhagen

I love Denmark and especially in Copenhagen.  It’s one of the coolest cities in Europe and I have made dozens of trips there.  One place I always enjoy visiting is the round tower.  If I have my facts right a long time ago a Danish King wanted to have a tower he could drive his carriage up to with his wife to oversee the city.  So, he built this tower with a circular roadway made of cobblestones that he could drive his carriage up.  I guess things are a bit different today.  I love walking up this tower and when you get to the top there is a 360-degree view of the city.  If you visit Copenhagen make sure to do this attraction.

The Dolomites

About ten years ago I found the Dolomites.  I looked at a lot of photos online and these beautiful images of grand mountain vistas were continuing to show up.  So with a bit of investigation I learned about the Dolomites.  I found a photographer that was familiar with the region and had him join us as a leader for the area. The workshop was a success.  I have now made several trips there and plan to do more as well as possibly another workshop in the next year.  These images are just a few that one can expect from this region, otherwise known as the Italian side of the alps.

Gems On The Beach

Everyone knows about how beautiful Iceland is.  If there is a god then this is the place on earth where all the art school graduates display their work.  Almost anyplace you int your camera you will find incredible photo opportunities.  I have traveling to Iceland since 2005 and I have still so much to see and discover.

One place that yields new winning images every time I visit is the iceberg beach.  This is a beach not too far from a giant glacier.  The icebergs calving off the glacier float out to sea and then low tide washes them on the beach.  This usually produces under the right conditions hundreds of small icebergs.  It’s heaven for photographers.  These two images I produced in a couple of hours there.  The background also lends to great images and as you can see in these, what I call the Arctic Yellow shines though along with such beautiful clouds.

Vegas Lights

Las Vegas, neon boneyard

Las Vegas, the city of lights. I love and hate Vegas. I love it for the photography aspect but just hate the whole fakeness of t.  It is an overdose of the senses.  In any case, I love the lights and photography. A number of years ago I visited The Neon Museum and they collect old Las Vegas signs.  They are marvels of engineering and these signs consisted of hundreds of lights or yards and yards fo neon tubes.  It’s so cool that you can visit a place to see these.  Naturally, I shot hundreds of images.  I looked for the abstract, shadows and light as well as color.  These are four of the images from that visit.

Fishing In Mexico

About 4 years ago my friend Micahel Reichmann and I decided to travel and do a deep Mexico photo adventure.  I mean really deep and we went places that many Americans probably have not gone.  It was scary every now and then.  Most people were very friendly and it gave us a chance to see how special Mexico is in its beautiful landscape possibilities.  These two images were made near an area with a flooded lake and the fishermen were out in drives.  There was a real peace and serenity at this location.  We were fortunate enough to be high up on a hill shooting down so it gave. unique perspective.

Polar Bears Jumping

I presume you may know that I also run workshops to amazing locations all around the world.  You can find these workshops at Rockhopper Workshops.  One of the places we visit is the Arctic and what an amazing place it is.  These two polar bears were photographed on one of my Svalbard workshops a few years ago.  On these workshops, we sometimes drive our small ship deep into the arctic ice and search for polar bears.  We get real close and shut the engines down and drift and if we are lucky polar bears come to us.  This polar bear was photographed from about fifty feet off of the ship.  The bear was jumping from ice flow to ice flow and sometimes even swimming.  These are magnificent animal.s

I still have room on my August 2020 workshop and info can be found at Rockhopper Workshops.  Maybe you’d consider joining us.

Celery Farmers

Celery Farmers in Canada

This is an image I saw while driving north in Canada to Algonquin State Park.  It was very foggy and we were driving through a farm area.  Through the fog, we saw these groups of farmers cutting celery and harvesting it.  What caught me was a subservient look of the bent-over farmers and the guy walking around with a big machete. The whole image asks a lot of questions that the viewer needs to solve for themselves.
