Off To Iceland Tomorrow

Waterfall, Iceland
Waterfall, Iceland

I am heading off to Iceland for my fourth trip tomorrow.  This is one of my favorite places to photograph.  As a fine art landscape photographer I know of no place that offers such stunning beauty no mater what season it is.  This trip will be nice as it is the first one where I won’t be going in summer months.  It will be cold, maybe snowy and best of all there will be darkness.  In June and during the summer there is 24 hours of light.  This also means I’ll be able to shoot the northern lights with the NEW Phase One IQ260 camera.  So stay tuned.  I”ll update the blog as often as internet connections allow.  This shot is from one of the many waterfalls that I converted to B&W.  After the many trips I have made there I try to make things look different.

It’s Pixel

This is my cat and as the author of this blog every now and then I take a chance and share something personal.  My cat will e a year old in a little over a month.  This show was made when she was eight weeks old.  Her personality and such were quite evident even then.  Her name is Pixel and she has shown and taught me more about love and living than I would have ever thought possible from a cat.  A very special creature.

Door, Door Wall

Door, Door Wall outside of San Miguel, Mexico

As I have mentioned in my previous posts there are a lot of ruins in the San Miguel area.  Not to far out of town are the ruins of an old silver mine.  The building are amazing and I have made a series of great looking images there.  This one is titled Door, Door Wall as that is what you see.  Enjoy!

San Miguel Square, Show Shine

Shoe Shine in San Miguel Square
Shoe Shine in San Miguel Square

I love the town square in San Miguel.  It’s beautifully landscaped and there is always some kind of activity going on there.  Vendors, locals, tourists and more all make this little spot a photographers paradise.  I enjoy shooting the locals.  This image was kind of cool as it a show shine guy.  I loved the way the guy has a hand on his customers boot like he is making a point about something. (Most likely the gringo taking his picture). And the guy on the bench is cool too.  Wonder what they were discussing.

Ruins, Atotonilco, Mexico

Atotonilco, Mexico, ruins near the Church

A short drive outside of San Miguel, Mexico is a small town with a big church, Atotonilco, Mexico.  There is like in all parts of the area a lot to shoot.  The church  interior itself is a site to behold.  I’ll most likely post an image of the church in the not so distant future.  This image was made a block away from the church looking towards  the church over some ruins.  There seems to be a lot of ruins around Mexico and they always make for some great images.  This one I thought looked kind of apocalyptic.

Bull Ring Water Cart

I was visiting my good friend Micahel Reichmann in San Miguel Mexico and across the street from him is a bull fighting ring.  It’s kind of funny as it sits in the middle of a neighborhood.  This is a shot of a cool looking water cart they drag around the bull ring to keep the dust down.

Lady In Doorway

There is an oasis in the middle of Mexico known as San Miguel Allende.  This a town that is hard to describe except that it has a charm that you don’t expect. It’s a great place for street photography as well as landscape photography.  This is a shot made on the street of a doorway and a woman sitting in it.

iPhone Is A Camera Too

Sometimes when traveling I just want to have fun taking photos.  A year ago I was n Copenhagen on business and I took an early morning walk.  How could I resist as it was very foggy and that makes for some interesting images.  While I had my big boy camera with me, I thought I would try some shots with Hipstamatic and the iPhone.  How cool!  This is one of those images of a woman walking through the square where the royal family lives.  her red hair, the fog and the design in the bricks makes this shot work.

Live From Decay

20061020_trains_-0154 wcrNature has a way of claiming what is hers.  So many times in my travels I see nature taking back what was hers.  This was very evident in this shot.  I stumbled upon an old box car and it was rusting away.  Out of the rust was the beginnings of a new plant.  Maybe in 50 years there won’t be anything but a pile of rust and dirt and a lot of new plants.  Made with an IQ180 camera from Phase One.

So Many Times

Waterfall In Iceland
Waterfall In Iceland

This is a location I have photographed many times in Iceland.  On each visit I shoot at this wonderful place.  It’s right by the road and has an easy pull off.  I shoot with different lenses and from different angles.  Combine this with different light and every time I leave this great place I walk away with a great image.  Here is one version from a year ago.  I’ll be visiting Iceland again in a few weeks and I am sure going to shoot here again.
